“Cafe Nuba,” Denver’s award-winning spoken word & urban music showcase, is partnering with KGNU Radio, the Biennial of the Americas, Flobots.org and other local community artivists (arts activists) for a 2nd edition of the “I Am Haiti” Solidarity Fundraiser Jam on Thursday, July 29th at 2701 Larimer St. Denver, 80205 from 9p-2am, the event is 21+ w/ i.d. downstairs (inside Meadowlark Lounge & the backyard, All-Ages upstairs in the event space) – admission is $10 minimum – additional gifts greatly appreciated. A multi-genre mash-up including soul, hip-hop, afrobeat, reggae and deep-house with DJs: Musa, CaveM, and Gyp daHip this dance party will also feature LIVE MUSICAL PERFORMANCES from Quetzal Guerrero, Supa Nova Slom, Erwin E.A. Thomas, Dominique Ashaheed, Jennifer Johns, Z.I.N. SoulDaddy & The Blackfyre Band, Brer Rabbit of The Flobots and visual art from Youbawoman. Door proceeds will benefit the Lambi Fund of Haiti Food Justice Delegation which includes Denver-based urban farmers. “We recognized that although many of our creative community was supporting relief for Haiti via text messaging, there was still a desire to share artistically and personally in the celebration of the resilience of the people. The “I Am Haiti” dance party is more than a fundraiser, it’s a collective healing ritual, a way to help us deal with this devastation” says curator/producer Ashara Ekundayo. In addition to donated venue space from the owner of the Meadowlark Lounge, all participants have donated their time and/or product to the effort that will continue as a series for at least the next 4 months. Sponsors and partners are still being solicited. “I Am Haiti” is co-produced by “Nuba” Co-Founder, Ashara Ekundayo & Peju Alwusa of Yorubawoman Design Studio (both co-producers of Denver’s famed “AfroBlu Afterhrs Party”). www.CafeNuba.com For more information contact Ekundayo at blublakwomyn@gmail.com or 303-260-9209.
